Undercurrent IX

Undercurrent IX - Original abstract drawing in archival pigment ink on heavyweight 300GSM paper. Part of the Undercurrent series. A perfect circle sits centred on the page, filled entirely with dense, interlocking forms rendered in fine black ink on white paper. Within the circular boundary, dozens of individual lobes and folds press against one another from every direction - swelling, curling, and compressing into a single continuous mass with no visible gaps or breathing room. The contour lines within each fold follow the same parallel logic as the rest of the series, but here they are forced into tighter, more varied curves by the sheer density of the composition. Darker passages appear where folds collapse into one another, while lighter areas mark the crests of forms that push closest to the viewer. The circle's edge acts as a hard containment - the forms fill it completely, pressing against the boundary from within.The surrounding white space is generous and empty, amplifying the density within the circle by contrast. The composition has a planetary quality - a sphere of compressed activity floating in void.
