Undercurrent I - Original abstract drawing in archival pigment ink on heavyweight 300GSM paper. Part of the Undercurrent series. A cascading chain of organic, bulbous forms flows diagonally across the composition, rendered entirely in fine black ink lines on white paper. Four interconnected lobes twist and fold into one another, each one swelling outward before cinching at narrow junctions where the forms meet. The parallel contour lines follow the surface of each volume faithfully, curving and compressing to describe dimensionality - bunching tightly in the recesses and spreading apart across the fullest points of each lobe. The topmost forms fan open with an almost ruffled, floral quality, while the lowest form tapers into a single elegant tendril that trails off the composition. The overall movement reads as a slow, spiraling descent - something caught between floating and sinking, between surfacing and submerging. The forms resist easy identification. They recall the deep-ocean architecture of kelp fronds and jellyfish bells, but also the folded topography of the cerebral cortex - those soft, convoluted ridges where thought takes shape beneath the surface. The work sits deliberately in that ambiguity, inviting the viewer to see both at once.
